The meeting wasn't that exciting (only four of us were there...) but
here are some important dates:

25 OCTOBER - RamRide
IS NOT HAPPENING because the night is full! DO NOT SHOW UP!!! :-P

12 November - movie night
Think of some good films that are reproductive-rights/sexuality related
that would get a good amount of folks interested

3 November - Planned Parenthood Training
We'll talk about this at our next meeting because I don't have all of
the details about it!

Next meeting: we're going to try and get room 24 in the LSC again (it's
right next to the ASCSU desk in the basement of the student center) but
someone will post about this for sure sometime soon. If nobody posts,
we'll just have the meeting in the Sunken Lounge, Thursday at 5.

Meeting Minutes - 4 October 2007
This week Teri, the education coordinator for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, came in and talked with us about some of the services Planned Parenthood offers, a little bit about the organization itself, and some good messaging techniques.

- 7% is abortion services; the rest are education and health services
- Planned Parenthood is a non-profit (there are no share or stock-holders), so all money goes to paying employees and goes back to providing more services.
- Planned Parenthood does the most to PREVENT abortions, and the goal is to make abortion rare but still provide access to it

*Values-Based Questions*
There are a few steps we can take when someone asks us a question that is "values-based", like "Is abortion murder?" or "is birth control wrong?"...
1. Tell them they have a valid question
2. Tell them it is based in someone's value system
3. Get to something in their question that is fact-based ("birth control CAN help prevent pregnancy" etc)
4. Tell them that specific question is one to ask someone they trust in their life, such as a family member

We got an AWESOME sheet that has good ways to answer some basic and frequent questions you may or may not be asked. I'll put these in the office on Monday for people to come and grab a copy.

- 2 arms; Health Services & Education/Training/Diversity
- Education programs are taught with a pre-approved cirriculum... this is currently trying to be revamped because House Bill 1292 got passed last year

- Some interesting sites to check out would be Weld Waits.com and W.A.I.T - Why Am I Tempted? - because both of these programs are pretty heavy influences in Greeley and other places in N. CO

- HIV tests... fast testing (finger prick, about $22), get results in 20 minutes, and the run-of-the-mill blood testing that takes a bit more time to get back
- STD/STI testing - HPV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, syphillis, among many others
- Pregnancy tests... urine tests (around $10), blood tests (around $18)... prices vary anywhere from $10-$25 depending on the area you're in
- Services for people who already have STDs/STIs, including HPV
- All sexual health exams can be given at PP, but you have to ask specifically for STI testing
- Can also do consultations/q&a with a nurse or doctor
- Vaccinations: Hepatitis B and C, HPV in most locations (they don't do this one in the Ft Collins PP; the closest one is in either Greeley or Denver)

Jillian's going to get Teri to come back up and talk with us again about more stuff dealing with Planned Parenthood, so she'll let us know as soon as she's coming back.

NEXT MEETING is on Thursday at 5... Jillian's going to try to get the meeting room we had on the 4th, which is on the upper level of the LSC, but if that's a no-go we'll just be meeting in the Sunken Lounge like always.

See you Thursday!!

Vox Meeting Minutes, 27 September 2007

We decided on October 25th because it's when the most people said it would work for them. Laura - do you still have all of the info about this?

We're going to do tabling on the plaza October 11th from 11-2, since the next Officer Orientation thing is the 10th and we haven't had two officers go through it yet.

The date has been pushed back until sometime early next semester. We all sort of agreed that it would be a better idea to go through the Planned Parenthood training on the 3rd of November, have time to get into contact with all of the groups we want involved with the fair, and get our stuff prepared with time to spare instead of throwing it together in two weeks.

Until then, maybe doing a movie night sometime in November would be a good idea? Think of good sex-related movies and good times to show them!

We're having a guest - Teri (I'm probably spelling her name wrong), who I think is our liason in Denver. She's coming up to talk to us about Planned Parenthood as an organization, give us good messaging techniques as far as talking to pro-life people about PP, and other fun stuff. We don't know where this meeting is going to be yet as it'd be nice if we could actually reserve a room, so watch for a post/email from Jillian since she's in charge of this event!

MEETING MINUTES: 20 September, 2007
Welcome to the test run of the CSUVox LiveJournal community! Hooray!

Okay, this week we talked about:

Ram Ride
We're going to try to do this on a Thursday night, because the hours will only be from 10:00PM-2:00AM. Here are some potential Thursdays that we can do RamRide, so if you're interested, please email me (Amy, secretary) directly at a_chromatic_sea@yahoo.com with which nights work for you, and we'll try to plan based upon that. The week of October 11th is midterms week, so we decided not to do it that week.

October 4
October 18
October 25

Safer Sex Fair
Tentative date: 17 OCTOBER 11:00AM-3:00PM in the Plaza

Possible groups to contact and get involved:
- Men's Project
- Campus Feminist Alliance
- Northern Colorado AIDS Project (NCAP)
- Doctor John's
- Black Student Services
- Adult Book Ranch
- Passion For the Planet (Amy'll be in charge of contacting the owner of this shop)

Think about any fun activities, booths, or other groups to include in the Safer Sex Fair and bring the ideas with you to the next meeting.

Planned Parenthood Training

Is on Saturday, 3 November from 9-5ish in Denver. Jillian is working on getting carpool stuff situated, so if you're interested in going, PLEASE contact her directly through the Yahoo!Group. This training is basically a crash course in all of the services Planned Parenthood offers, and is a great resource for us as a student organization.
